- Girnar is considered to be the Neminath mountain or also known as Shatrunjay’s (Palitana) 5th peak. There are number of references people visiting Girnar since first Tirthankara to last.
- It is said that the idol of Neminath Dada was made by Indra dev from fifith divine world. It is 140 cms in height, black in complexion and sat in Padamasana posture and the idol is about 2300 years old. The peak of the temple showers blessings for commencing munihood which ultimately leads to acquire absolute knowlegde (Keval – Gyan).
- This idol was initially with the Indra Dev until the time of Neminath Bhagwan and then it was established in the house - temple of Krishna until the Dwarka city was into ashes. While this period, Goddess Ambika protected Neminath Bhagwan’s idol.
- Ambika Devi took the idol to Kanchangiri (Girnar) where it was worshipped by Dev and Devi. Ratnasha Shravak aided Ambika Devi to get the idol out of the cave and place it on Raivatgiri (Girnar). It is said that, while in 5 epoch i.e current time cycle the idol will be worshipped for 1 lakh 3 thousand and 250 years.
- Initially Lord Neminath Idol was made of clay called ‘Velu’ which was later demolished due to anointing by the Charri – palit Sangha conducted by Ratnasha. People were flabbergasted and that’s when Ratnasha began Kayotsarga (a type of mediation)
- Every year there is a race held from the base of the mountain to Peak and again back.
- Gajendrapad kund / Haathi Pagla Kund / Gajpad Kund– This was made by Indra Dev’s Airavat Elephant who had come to see Neminath dada’s Pratishta conducted by Bharat Maharaja. After reaching there, as he wished to provide water for Pooja, Airavat Elephant with his powerful feet created a small pond. This pond attracted bees due to its fragrance. Doing Pooja by this kund’s water, you can get the same result that you would get by worshipping any other tirth. Due to purity of this tirth, the water is considered to purify body and mental diseases. This bequeath pond is still present on Girnar which makes if glorifying.
- It is said that in every epoch there will be 3 Kalyanaks of atleast 1 tirthankar. Earlier, Girnar was known as ‘Raivatgiri’ and ‘Ujjayantgiri’.
- It is believed that 20 tirthankars of next chouveesi will attained Moksha from Girnar mountain. Also 22nd Tirtankara of present chouveesi have attained moksha and Kevalgyan from this place. There are many other munis who received Moksha after Neminath Bhagwan.
- First Tonk – This cave is known as ‘Rajul Gufa’ and has small entrance. Shwetambars new idol are present here with Rajul and Rathnemi. In some distance, there is an idol of Bahubali which is 4 feet long. Next to this there are idols of ‘Panch Parmeshthi’ and foot images of ‘Kundkund’ Acharya. Also there is idol of Lord Parshvanath in Padmasana.
- There is ‘Gomukh’ pond here from which the water flows continuously. There are footprints of 24 tirthankars near Gomukh. There are 9 beautifully constructed Shwetanber temples by Vastupal, Tejpal, Sajjan sheth, etc
- Second Tonk – The 2nd Tonk is the ‘Nirvana’ place of Aniruddha Kumar with footprints present. Also there is a temple of Ambadevi. Previously, the temple was under Digambar Temple, but now it is shifted under Hindus.
- Third Tonk – It is the place where ‘Shambu Kumar’ has attained ‘Nirvana’. At this place too Hindus have built their temple.
- Fourth Tonk – This tonk is little difficult to climb. Here there is ‘Pradyumna Kumar’s’ foot images as it is also the Nirvana place of Pradyumna Kumar.
- Fifth Tonk – It is the ‘Nirvana’ spot of Neminath Bhagwan. Where there are foot images of Nem Bhagwan. Behind this image there is a grand Digamber idol of Neminath Bhagwan which is now under Hindus, reason being they believe that the foot images are of ‘Dattatreya’
